Not only is hunting season upon us but so is the holiday season! Which means the search for the perfect gift has begun. Personally I love to give gifts that will keep on bringing joy throughout the year or better yet for a lifetime.
Growing up hunting and being a female, I am often asked what firearms I use most often, so I FINALLY decided to put together a list of my personal favorites and why they made their way to the top of my list.
You may think I am a bit biased because I am a winchester fanatic, but I only partner with companies that have products that I truly use and love! – I mean, I work very hard for my money and I believe that you do to. I would NEVER EVER tell you to spend your hard earned money on anything I don’t personally believe in! With that being said, here are the firearms that I use most often.
I have always been a fan of winchester semi-auto shotguns and when they released the sx4 it was no exception. I have been using this gun for over two years in a variety of different hunting situations and I have yet to have it jam on me – knock on wood. This is my go to shotgun for turkey and waterfowl hunting!
Why do I love it? Because of the attention to detail!
Not only is it light weight, which is great for anyone who is trekking through the woods, but they also took into consideration that most people wear gloves while hunting. They made the bolt handle, bolt release button, safety, and trigger guard all larger, making it easy to operate and I LOVE it. Now I can keep my fingers warm while operating my firearm!
This rifle has become my main squeeze! Prior to shooting the 6.5 creedmoor, the rifle I used most for hunting was a .270. I still love my .270 but it doesn’t see the sun as much anymore as it stays in the safe, when I began shooting the 6.5 creedmoor.
I love this rifle for 2 reasons:
1.) It is a very fast and flat shooting rifle. Allowing for accurate shots at a great distance. Personally I have my rifle sighted in for out to 1200 yards – I would never take a shot that far at an animal – that distance is for long range target practice. When hunting I like to keep my shots below 300 yards.
2.) It is versatile. As mentioned above I use it for long range shooting AND for hunting! Just be sure to choose the appropriate ammunition depending on your activity. Remember, that you need to sight in your rifle with the different rounds you intend to use, as each round will shoot differently.
I am pretty new to shooting an over and under, I’ve only had one for a little over 2 years now, but I am OBSESSED. There is nothing like the classic look of an over and under while shooting clays or upland game hunting.
You will find that over and unders do tend to have more recoil than a semi-auto shotgun. This is because with a semi automatic some of the recoil is absorbed as the shell is ejected. With that being said, I like to use xtra lite ammunition if I am doing a lot of clay shooting.
So there you have it my top 3 firearms and the reasons I love them! Let me know what your favorite firearm is to use and why by commenting below!
