Oh, CANADA…Your waterfowl is Amazing
I am finally getting around to writing about my AMAZING hunting trip up north to Saskatchewan, Canada. I live very close to the border of Canada and have visited many times; however, I have never had the opportunity to hunt there until recently.
A few weeks ago, my good friend Angie invited me to go on a women’s waterfowl hunting trip. I couldn’t think of a better reason to venture north than to be able to hunt with a group of wonderful women whom are LEGIT stewards of the outdoors.
We all flew into Saskatoon at about the same time, so we got to get acquainted with one another before loading up the trucks and making the voyage to camp. Before we got out of town we stopped at the store to pick up some necessities…us ladies need our snacks before a 2-hour road trip! More importantly, we needed to stock up on the necessities for the week; things like hunting licenses (check), food (check), and of course, some celebratory beverages (CHECK)!
Upon arrival at camp, Angie surprised us with some amazing gift bags! She didn’t just throw together some random trip nonchalantly, this woman busted her butt to go above and beyond to make our trip exceptional and one for the books. (This woman is GOALS!) Here are just a few of the items she had waiting for us:
Venor Leggings – These leggings are amazing! High quality AND has a large pocket in the waist band where you can store your phone. FINALLY, I have been waiting for a pocket that would something larger than a quarter in it for a long time!!
Irish Setter Boots – Comfortable, very stylish, and warm which was badly needed since the temperatures up there were well below freezing every day. Most people migrate towards warmer climates when taking a vacation…but not this group of ladies.
Rig Em’ Right waterfowl bags – I am new to waterfowl and typically don’t often shop for new gear because when it comes to new gear, I can find myself maxing out a credit card in a heartbeat for new stuff ha! But back to my original point – I was introduced to this brand while in Canada and the bags were so convenient. I used them to pack my Winchester Ammunition and extra gear for the field on every single hunt.
Custom Deerskin Gloves and Thermos – Not much else can ruin a hunt faster than freezing cold hands and what warms you up better than reliably warm gloves and a warm beverage?
We spent the week hunting, laughing, eating and dancing. It was just what the doctor ordered since it has been awhile since I had some girl time like this.
We had hunts where we limited out and some where we struggled for birds…I wish I could say it was from a lack of shooting, but we had our opportunities for plenty of shots. Haha.
Angie was the lone veteran waterfowler of the group…the rest of us are pretty new to it. But, I think I can speak for all of us when I say we CAN NOT WAIT to get back out in the field together and continue learning!
Between the amazing hunts, awesome food and drinks, great company and beautiful views, the week was a success and hopefully will become an annual trip!
Thank you all for stopping by to take part in my rambling, I’m humbled to be a part of this! Best of luck this season!
PS. Angie is also an AMAZING photographer, special thanks to her, Kjos, and Amanda for capturing so many amazing photos!
